Prepare for alpine adventures with Group 314’s Snow Craft course.
This hands-on program builds your competency in essential snow craft skills for alpine touring, using a range of campsites in the alpine environment, including emergency improvised shelters.
Snowcraft equipment will be provided (tent, sleeping equipment, pack, first aid kit, shovel, PLB, repair kit, map, compass, etc).
Students are required to bring their own snow clothing (including thermals and footwear), sunglasses, gaiters, gloves. Footwear must be waterproof and suitable for walking in the snow.
Course Information
This course develops competency to use snow craft skills for alpine touring.
The course will use a variety of campsites in the alpine environment, including emergency improvised shelters.
Snowcraft equipment will be provided (tent, sleeping equipment, pack, first aid kit, shovel, PLB, repair kit, map, compass, etc).
Students are required to bring their own snow clothing (including thermals and footwear), sunglasses, gaiters, gloves. Footwear must be waterproof and suitable for walking in the snow.
Students may bring personal equipment, but it must pass an inspection by Group 314 prior to use.
This course requires the successful completion of:
- SISOSKT003 Use snow craft skills for alpine touring.
The course content is:
- Day 1 - Alpine theory, equipment, risks, and camping.
- Day 2 - Emergency shelters.
- Day 3 - Assessment.
- Day 4 - Assessment.
- Day 5 - Assessment.
Training is provided using practical sessions whilst conducting snow craft activities in alpine conditions.
Statement of Attainment.
Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).
Students are required to be employed in an Outdoor Leadership role and have prior skills and knowledge in first aid and operating within alpine environments. They will therefore have experience that qualifies as RPL. RPL will be assessed and supplemented by gap and/or refresher training as required.

Three Mile Dam
Students must:
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
- Have an email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.
- Complete a Pre-course Evaluation conducted by Group 314 to determine suitability for the course.
- Previous experience in camping and outdoor leadership.
