Develop your sea kayaking skills in sheltered waters with this practical and engaging course.
This program equips you with the competency to kayak in sheltered waters while camping at various scenic locations.
The course will utilise a variety of campsites. Students are to bring their own camping equipment such as clothing, footwear, sleeping bag and mat, tent, cooking equipment, rations, water containers.
Sea kayaking equipment will be provided (kayak, paddle, lifejacket, helmet, cag, wetsuit, throw bag, knife, drybag, first aid equipment, PLB etc.).
Students may bring personal equipment, but it must pass an inspection by Group 314 prior to use.
Course Information
This course requires the successful completion of:
- SISOKYS001 Paddle a sea kayak in enclosed waters.
- SISOKYS002 Paddle a sea kayak in sheltered coastal waters.
The course content is:
- Day 1 - Demonstration activity, basic skills development.
- Day 2 - Theory, skill development, navigation, and planning.
- Day 3 - Trip, skill development, assessment
- Day 4 - Trip, skill development, assessment
- Day 5 - Trip, skill development, assessment
Training is provided using practical sessions whilst conducting kayaking activities on enclosed and sheltered coastal waters.
Statement of Attainment.
Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).
Students are required to be employed in an Outdoor Leadership role and have prior skills in outdoor guiding. They will therefore have experience that qualifies as RPL. RPL will be assessed and supplemented by gap and/or refresher training as required.

Jervis Bay
Students must:
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
- Have an email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.
- Complete a Pre-course Evaluation conducted by Group 314 to determine suitability for the course.
- Be able to swim and be physically fit to undertake sea kayaking.
