Develop the skills to successfully guide a raft on grade 3 rivers.
This practical training programme builds your competency in navigating a raft on grade 3 rivers, including essential skills on rafting techniques and rescues.
Throughout this course, we'll be camping at a variety of campsites. Students are to bring their own camping equipment and rations.
All rafting equipment will be provided (raft, paddle, PFD, helmet, wetsuit, cag, carabiners, throwbag, knives).
Students are to bring their own on-water clothing such as thermals, footwear, sunglasses (on a strap) and rashie.
Students may bring personal rafting equipment, but it must pass an inspection by Group 314 prior to use.
Course Information
This course requires the successful completion of:
- SISORAF002 Guide a raft on grade 3 rivers.
The course content is:
- Day 1 - Demonstration activity, equipment familiarization, theory.
- Day 2 - Rafting techniques and rescues.
- Day 3 - Assessment.
- Day 4 - Assessment.
- Day 5 - Assessment.
Training is provided using practical sessions whilst conducting rafting activities on grade 3 rivers.
Statement of Attainment.
Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).
Students are required to be employed in an Outdoor Leadership role and have prior skills and knowledge in rope work and rafting. They will therefore have experience that qualifies as RPL. RPL will be assessed and supplemented by gap and/or refresher training as required.

This course requires students to complete a variety of assessment activities.
- Written Knowledge Assessment (1).
- Competency Observation (3).
- Skills Assessment(1).
Snowy River (or other suitable Grade 3 rivers).
Students must:
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
- Have an email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.
- Complete a Pre-course Evaluation conducted by Group 314 to determine suitability for the course.
- Previous experience in ropework.
- Previous experience kayaking, canoeing, or rafting on grade 2 rivers.
- Be able to swim 50m wearing rafting equipment.
- Have the physical ability to raft grade 3 rivers.
