Develop your leadership skills on climbing on single pitch natural surfaces.
This course develops competency to conduct lead climbing on single pitch natural surfaces.
Learn how to lead climb single pitches, including climbing techniques, theory and leadership skills for single pitched climbs on natural surfaces.
The course will use a variety of campsites. Students are to bring their own camping equipment and rations.
Climbing equipment will be provided (ropes, carabiners, helmet, harness, anchors, climbing shoes, etc).
Students may bring personal equipment, but it must pass an inspection by Group 314 prior to use.
Course Information
This course requires the successful completion of:
- SISOCLM003 Lead climb single pitches, natural surfaces
The course content is:
- Day 1 - Demonstration activity, theory of lead climbing.
- Day 2 - Climbing techniques, anchors, chock craft, rescue.
- Day 3 - Assessment activities.
- Day 4 - Assessment activities.
- Day 5 - Assessment activities.
Training is provided using practical sessions whilst conducting lead climbing on single pitch natural surfaces.
Statement of Attainment.
Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).
Students are required to be employed in an Outdoor Leadership role and have prior skills and knowledge in roping, climbing single pitch natural surfaces, and abseiling single pitch natural surfaces. They will therefore have experience that qualifies as RPL. RPL will be assessed and supplemented by gap and/or refresher training as required.

This course requires students to complete a variety of assessment activities.
- Written Knowledge Assessment (1).
- Competency Observation (8).
- Skills Assessment(1).
Blue Mountains (or other suitable climbing areas).
Students must:
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
- Have an email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.
- Complete a Pre-course Evaluation conducted by Group 314 to determine suitability for the course.
- Previous experience in ropework.
- Previous experience in abseiling and top rope climbing on natural surfaces.
- Have the physical ability to lead climb on natural surfaces.
