Discover the thrill of exploring hidden subterranean worlds as you delve into the depths of intricate cave systems.
This course combines essential caving techniques with hands-on exploration, guiding you through the skills needed to navigate, document, and safely manage cave environments.
The course will use a variety of campsites. Students are to bring their own camping equipment, rations, headlamp, and secondary light source.
Caving equipment will be provided (ropes, carabiners, helmet, harness, gloves, caving ladders, overalls etc).
Students may bring personal equipment, but it must pass an inspection by Group 314 prior to use.
Course Information
This course requires the successful completion of:
- SISOCVE001 Traverse caves.
- SISOCVE002 Descend and ascend ladders in caves.
- SISOCVE003 Abseil single pitches in caves.
- SISOCVE004 Descend and ascend single ropes in caves.
- SISOCVE005 Establish ropes, ladders, and belays for caving.
The course content is:
- Day 1 - Demonstration activity, knot craft, equipment, caving techniques.
- Day 2 - Skill development, rescues, theory.
- Day 3 - Skill development and assessment.
- Day 4 - Skill development and assessment.
- Day 5 - Skill development and assessment.
Training is provided using practical sessions whilst conducting caving activities.
Statement of Attainment.
Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).
Students are required to be employed in an Outdoor Leader role and have prior skills and knowledge in roping. They will therefore have experience that qualifies as RPL. RPL will be assessed and supplemented by gap and/or refresher training as required.

- Written Knowledge Assessment (5).
- Competency Observation (7).

Students must:
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
- Have an email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.
- Complete a Pre-course Evaluation conducted by Group 314 to determine suitability for the course.
- Physical ability to abseil on a natural surfaces and traverse caves.
Students must hold the following units:
- SISOABS003 Abseil single pitches, natural surfaces.
- SISOABS006 Establish ropes for single pitch abseiling on natural surfaces.
