Adventure Based Learning

Course Description
This course develops competency to facilitate adventure-based learning activities. It will be conducted using an appropriate adventure-based activity as a medium to develop real learning experiences.

The course will camp in field locations.

Group 314 will provide all activity specific equipment.

Students are required to bring their own camping equipment, clothing, and rations.

Course Content
This course requires the successful completion of:

  • SISOABL002 Facilitate adventure-based learning activities

The course content is:

  • Day 1 - Demonstration activity.
  • Day 2 - Theory and practice activities.
  • Day 3 - Assessment.
  • Day 4 - Assessment.
  • Day 5 - Assessment.


Recognition
Nationally Recognised Training ( NRT ) under the Australian Quality Training Framework ( AQTF ).

Course Fee
$1,500 ex GST (per enrolment)

Entry Requirements
Students must:

  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
  • Have an email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.
  • Complete a Pre-course Evaluation conducted by Group 314 to determine suitability for the course.
  • Have the physical ability to undertake the adventure activity.


Duration
40 hours completed over a continuous period of five days.

Training Strategy
Training is provided using theory and practical sessions whilst simultaneously undertaking an adventure activity.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Students are required to be employed in an Outdoor Leadership role and have prior skills and knowledge in the adventure activity being undertaken. They will therefore have experience that qualifies as RPL. RPL will be assessed and supplemented by gap and/or refresher training as required.

Assessment Strategy
This course requires students to complete a variety of assessment activities.

  • Written Knowledge Assessment (1).
  • Competency Observation (3).

Any adventure site depending on the chosen activity.
