Climbing – Natural Surfaces – Lead – Multi Pitch
Course Description
This course develops competency to undertake lead climbing on multi pitch natural surfaces.
The course will use a variety of campsites. Students are to bring their own camping equipment and rations.
Climbing equipment will be provided (harness, helmet, ropes, carabiners, anchors, etc).
Students may bring personal equipment, but it must pass an inspection by Group 314 prior to use.

- SISOCLM004 - Lead climb multi pitches, natural surfaces
The course content is:
- Day 1 - Demonstration activity, lead climbing verification.
- Day 2 - Theory, rope management, and rescue.
- Day 3 - Assessment scenarios.
- Day 4 - Assessment scenarios.
- Day 5 - Assessment scenarios.
Recognition
Nationally Recognised Training ( NRT ) under the Australian Quality Training Framework ( AQTF ).
Certification Type
Statement of Attainment.
Course Fee
$1,500 ex GST (per enrolment)
Entry Requirements
Students must:
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
- Have an email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.
- Complete a Pre-course Evaluation conducted by Group 314 to determine suitability for the course.
- Previous experience in ropework.
- Previous experience in lead climbing single pitch natural surfaces.
- Previous experience in abseiling multi pitch natural surfaces.
- Have the physical ability to lead climb on multi pitch natural surfaces.
Duration
40 hours completed over a continuous period of five days.
Training Strategy
Training is provided using practical sessions whilst conducting lead climbing on multi pitch natural surfaces.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Students are required to be employed in an Outdoor Leadership role and have prior skills and knowledge in roping, lead climbing single pitch natural surfaces, and abseiling multi pitch natural surfaces. They will therefore have experience that qualifies as RPL. RPL will be assessed and supplemented by gap and/or refresher training as required.
