Develop your climbing skills on natural surfaces - Top Rope.
This course develops competency to climb on natural surfaces (top rope).
Throughout this hands-on practical training course, you'll develop skills and knowledge using top rope climb single pitches and establish belays for single pitch climbing on natural surfaces.
The course will use a variety of campsites. Students are to bring their own camping equipment and rations.
Climbing equipment will be provided (ropes, carabiners, helmets, harnesses, etc).
Students may bring personal equipment, but it must pass an inspection by Group 314 prior to use.
Course Information
This course requires the successful completion of:
- SISOCLM002 Top rope climb single pitches, natural surfaces.
- SISOCLM006 Establish belays for single pitch climbing on natural surfaces.
The course content is:
- Day 1 - Demonstration activity, theory, climbing techniques, and anchors.
- Day 2 - Skills practice.
- Day 3 - Assessment.
- Day 4 - Assessment.
- Day 5 - Assessment.
Training is provided using practical sessions whilst conducting climbing activities on natural surfaces (top rope).
Statement of Attainment.
Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).
Students are required to be employed in an Outdoor Leadership role and have prior skills and knowledge in climbing and outdoor guiding. They will therefore have experience that qualifies as RPL. RPL will be assessed and supplemented by gap and/or refresher training as required.

The Rock
Students must:
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
- Have an email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.
- Complete a Pre-course Evaluation conducted by Group 314 to determine suitability for the course.
- Previous experience in ropework.
- Have the physical ability to abseil on natural surfaces.
