Navigation (Difficult Tracked)

Course Description
This course develops competency to Navigate in difficult tracked environments.

The course will use a variety of campsites. Students are to bring their own camping and bushwalking equipment, rations and drinking containers.

Emergency equipment such as First Aid kits and PLBs, as well as navigational equipment such as GPS, maps and compasses will be provided.

Students may bring personal equipment, but it must pass an inspection by Group 314 prior to use.

Course Content
This course requires the successful completion of:

  • SISOFLD007 Navigate in difficult tracked environments.

The course content is:

  • Day 1 - Maps, data sheets, theory.
  • Day 2 - Navigation devices, including GPS.
  • Day 3 - Assessment.
  • Day 4 - Assessment.
  • Day 5 - Assessment.


Recognition
Nationally Recognised Training ( NRT ) under the Australian Quality Training Framework ( AQTF ).

Certification Type
Statement of Attainment.

Course Fee
$1,500 ex GST (per enrolment)

Entry Requirements
Students must:

  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
  • Have an email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.
  • Complete a Pre-course Evaluation conducted by Group 314 to determine suitability for the course.
  • Have previous experience in bushwalking.
  • Have the physical ability to hike long distances on grade 4 tracks.


Duration
40 hours completed over a continuous period of five days.

Training Strategy
Training is provided using practical sessions whilst conducting navigation in difficult tracked environments.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Students are required to be employed in an Outdoor Leadership role and have prior skills and knowledge in navigation and bushwalking. They will therefore have experience that qualifies as RPL. RPL will be assessed and supplemented by gap and/or refresher training as required.

This course requires students to complete a variety of assessment activities.

  • Written Knowledge Assessment (1).
  • Competency Observation (3).

Kosciuszko National Park (or other suitable non-alpine grade 4 tracks).
