Rafting – Grade 4 Rivers

Course Description
This course develops competency to Guide a raft on grade 4 rivers

The course will use a variety of campsites. Students are to bring their own camping equipment and rations.

Rafting equipment will be provided (raft, paddle, PFD, helmet, wetsuit, cag, carabiners, throwbag, knives).

Students are to bring their own on-water clothing such as thermals, footwear, sunglasses (on a strap) and rashie.

Students may bring personal rafting equipment, but it must pass an inspection by Group 314 prior to use.

Course Content
This course requires the successful completion of:

  • SISORAF003 Guide a raft on grade 4 rivers.

The course content is:

  • Day 1 - Demonstration activity, theory.
  • Day 2 - Rafting techniques and rescues.
  • Day 3 - Assessment.
  • Day 4 - Assessment.
  • Day 5 - Assessment.


Recognition
Nationally Recognised Training ( NRT ) under the Australian Quality Training Framework ( AQTF ).

Certification Type
Statement of Attainment.

Course Fee
$1,500 ex GST (per enrolment)

Entry Requirements
Students must:

  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
  • Have an email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.
  • Complete a Pre-course Evaluation conducted by Group 314 to determine suitability for the course.
  • Be able to swim 50m wearing rafting equipment
  • Have the physical ability to raft grade 4 rivers.


Duration
40 hours completed over a continuous period of five days.

Training Strategy
Training is provided using practical sessions whilst conducting rafting activities on grade 4 rivers.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Students are required to be employed in an Outdoor Leadership role and have prior skills and knowledge in rope work and rafting. They will therefore have experience that qualifies as RPL. RPL will be assessed and supplemented by gap and/or refresher training as required.

  • Written Knowledge Assessment (1).
