This specialised program teaches you how to interpret weather patterns and understand environmental conditions.
Learn how to interpret weather, seasonal patterns, forecasting and environmental conditions for outdoor recreation activities as well as how to minimise environmental impact.
Course Information
This course develops competency to Interpret weather and environmental conditions for outdoor recreation activities as well as how to minimise environmental impact.
The course is generally classroom based but will require time in the field for the practical application of the theory.
Where camping is involved, students are to provide their own camping equipment and rations.
This course requires the successful completion of:
- SISOPLN005 Interpret weather and environmental conditions for outdoor recreation activities.
- SISOFLD002 Minimise environmental impact.
The course content is:
- Day 1 - Theory, maps, charts, and symbols.
- Day 2 - Regional weather, seasonal patterns, and forecasting.
- Day 3 - Environmental theory and best practice compliance.
- Day 4 - Assessment.
- Day 5 - Assessment.
Training is provided using theory and practical sessions whilst Interpreting Weather and environmental conditions for outdoor recreation activities.
Statement of Attainment.
Nationally Recognised Training ( NRT ) under the Australian Quality Training Framework ( AQTF ).
Students are required to be employed in an Outdoor Leadership role and have prior skills and knowledge in outdoor recreation activities. They will therefore have experience that qualifies as RPL. RPL will be assessed and supplemented by gap and/or refresher training as required.

- Written Knowledge Assessment (2).
- Competency Observation (6).

- Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
- Have an email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.
- Complete a Pre-course Evaluation conducted by Group 314 to determine suitability for the course.
- Have experience conducting outdoor leadership activities
