Training Process

The Group 314 Training and Assessment Process includes the following key stages:

  • Pre-enrolment.
  • Enrolment.
  • Pre-course evaluation.
  • Development of an individual Student Training Plan.
  • Training.
  • Assessment.
  • Certification.
  • Evaluation.

Group 314 provides information to students on this website about Group 314, our policies, how we train and assess (this page) and our courses. This information is made available upfront so that prospective students can read about Group 314 and about our courses and:

  • Make an informed decision about selecting Group 314 as their training provider.
  • Select a suitable course.

Enrolment to Group 314 courses is managed online through the Group 314 website. The enrolment process is started by clicking the ‘Enrol Now’ button for the selected course. Students are then guided through the enrolment process which includes:

  • Collection of personal information*: name, contact details, date of birth and Unique Student Identifier (USI). Instructions for obtaining a USI are provided at this stage.
  • Student declarations: privacy, fees, refunds and student responsibilities.
  • Payment of the course fee#.
  • Notification of wish to claim recognition of prior learning or credit transfer (where available).
  • Confirmation of enrolment: email and letter.

The enrolment confirmation email contains login details to the Group 314 e-Learning Portal . Once logged in, students are required to:

  • Agree to Student Terms and Conditions.
  • Complete a Student Profile*: identity and cultural background, contact information, education and employment, learning disabilities or special requirements for delivery of training.
  • Submit a claim for recognition of prior learning.

In some cases, such as for short courses, enrolment may be manual and involve the completion of an enrolment form.

Once the enrolment process is complete and the applicable course fee# paid, students are able to enter their chosen course.

# Fees are collected in accordance with the Group 314 Fee Policy.

Following enrolment and prior to the commencement of a course, Group 314 conducts a Pre-course Evaluation for each student to determine whether the student has enroled into a suitable course*. The Pre-course Evaluation includes an initial interview between Group 314 and the student and an evaluation of:

  • Compliance with entry requirements.
  • Existing skills, knowledge and experience.
  • Language, literacy and numeracy skills.

The Pre-course Evaluation is also used to gather evidence to:

  • Support a claim for recognition of prior learning and/or credit transfer.
  • Inform individual Student Training Plans.

*If students do not meet the entry requirements for a course at any stage of the above process, or the course is deemed unsuitable, the student’s enrolment will be cancelled, course fees refunded and where possible the student referred to an appropriate provider to obtain the required skills prior to enrolment.

Group 314 has a Training and Assessment Strategy for each course it delivers. The Training and Assessment Strategy is a general strategy for delivery of a course and does not cater for individual student characteristics and educational and support needs.

For each student enroled in a course, Group 314 uses the information obtained during enrolment and during the pre-enrolment evaluation to:

  • Assess existing student skills and knowledge and make adjustments for eligible recognition of prior learning and credit transfer*.
  • Identify gaps in student skills and knowledge.
  • Identify special learning needs.
  • Identify training and educational and support services# required to fill gaps and cater for special learning needs.
  • Adjust the Training and Assessment Strategy to create an individual Student Training Plan that is tailored to the skills, knowledge and special learning needs of the student.

Educational and support services# could include contextualisation of the course to the workplace, flexible scheduling and delivery of the course and any other reasonable and feasible strategy required to support students to achieve competency.

 

*Recognition of prior learning and credit transfer are assessed in accordance with the Group 314 Recognition of Prior Learning Policy and the Group 314 Credit Transfer Policy.

#Educational and support services are provided for the duration of a course in accordance with the Group 314 Educational and Support Services Policy

All trainers and assessors who deliver training and assessment services for, or on behalf of, Group 314 have the credentials required by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). Current ASQA requirements for trainers and assessors are:

1  TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment; OR

2  TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment; and one of the following

– TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills or its successor or

– TAELLN401A Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills and one of the following:

– TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools or its successor or

– TAEASS502A Design and develop assessment tools or

– TAEASS502B Design and develop assessment tools; OR

3  A diploma or higher level qualification in adult education.

4  Competency in the vocation being trained and assessed – Hold current industry certifications and qualifications at least to the level being trained and assessed.

5  Current industry skills – Have worked in the industry and have recent industry experience which is directly relevant to the training and assessment being delivered.

6  Current in vocational training – Have experience in vocational training and undertake professional development in relation to the training sector.

Where it will improve the quality of assessment decisions, Group 314 involves industry experts to work alongside a trainer and assessor to ensure students are only assessed as competent if they are competent.

Group 314 conducts training in accordance with the Training and Assessment Strategy for a course, which is developed in consultation with industry to ensure relevance to real workplaces.

  • Training Strategy.

Students should read the relevant course information for more information about the delivery of training. Please keep in mind that courses may be adjusted in accordance with individual Student Training Plans.

Unless specified in the Entry Requirements for the relevant course, all materials and equipment required to complete the training will be provided to students.

Educational and support services are provided for the duration of a course in accordance with the Group 314 Educational and Support Services Policy.

Group 314 conducts assessment in accordance with the Training and Assessment Strategy for a course, which is supplemented by a Unit of Competency Assessment Plan for each unit of competency within a course.

The Training and Assessment Strategy identifies the types of assessment activities that are required such as: online assessment, assignments, exams, practical sessions and workplace assessments. Information from the Training and Assessment Strategy is provided in the course specific information on this website. This includes assessment information that is specific to each course such as:

  • Recognition of Prior Learning*.
  • Credit Transfer*.
  • Assessment Strategy.

Students should read the relevant course information for more information about the assessment strategy. Please keep in mind that courses may be adjusted in accordance with individual Student Training Plans.

The Unit of Competency Assessment Plan identifies the assessment resources needed, assessment methods, timing of assessments and any other training package and VET accredited course requirement in relation to assessment of that unit of competency. Students are provided with this information once they have enroled and started their course. Unit of Competency Assessment Plans may be adjusted to meet the needs of an individual student (such as recognition of prior learning, credit transfer, special needs, situational opportunities).

Unless specified in the Entry Requirements for the relevant course, all materials and equipment required to complete assessments will be provided to students.

Assessments are undertaken in accordance with Principles of Assessment (Fairness, Flexibility, Validity and Reliability) and Rules of Evidence (Validity, Sufficiency, Authenticity and Currency).

Group 314 will provide reasonable opportunity for reassessment on assessment tasks where a Not Yet Competent assessment decision has been made. Trainers and assessors will provide reasonable and feasible educational and support services# to assist a student achieve competency. Two attempts at assessment may be made before an additional fee^ is payable.

 

*Recognition of prior learning and credit transfer are assessed in accordance with the Group 314 Recognition of Prior Learning Policy and the Group 314 Credit Transfer Policy.

#Educational and support services are provided for the duration of a course in accordance with the Group 314 Educational and Support Services Policy.

^Fees are payable in accordance with the Group 314 Fee Policy.

For courses that are nationally recognised, students assessed as competent receive a nationally recognised Qualification or Statement of Attainment.

Certificates for nationally recognised training will be released within 30 days of course completion. Completion of a course is deemed to be when all required evidence has been submitted and a final assessment decision made by an assessor.

For courses that are not nationally recognised, a Statement of Completion will be issued.

Replacement certificates for all courses can be requested from the Group 314 office on 1300 448 799 or info@group314.com.

Following completion of a course, students (and if relevant their employers) are issued with evaluation questionnaires that need to be completed and returned to Group 314. Student and employer evaluations are used for purposes such as continuous improvement and reporting requirements.

Company Policies

The Group 314 Complaints and Appeals Policy (the Policy) provides information to students and clients about how to make a complaint or an appeal in relation to training and assessment services provided by, or on behalf of, Group 314.

The Policy explains how Group 314 will manage and respond to complaints involving the conduct of:

  • Group 314, its trainers, assessors or other staff.
  • A third-party providing services on behalf of Group 314, its trainers, assessors or other staff.
  • A student.

It also explains how appeals by students for a review of decisions made by Group 314, including assessment decisions, will be handled.

Group 314 is committed to providing high quality training and assessment and excellent service. Any indication of a lapse in quality or service will result in swift and decisive action by Group 314 to resolve the issue and implement any required improvements.

Group 314 Complaints and Appeals Policy V2

The Group 314 Credit Transfer Policy (the Policy) provides students with information about how to apply for Credit Transfer.

Credit Transfer is a process by which the equivalence of previously completed formal training is recognised. If the content of previously completed formal training is identical or equivalent to content of a new course the student is enroled in, the credit can be transferred to the new course and does not need to be retaught.

Credit Transfer may be claimed for any nationally recognised unit of competency included in a Group 314 course.

The Policy covers:

  • How to make a claim for Credit Transfer (the Claim).
  • What evidence must be provided to support the Claim.
  • How the authenticity of evidence is verified.
  • How the Claim is assessed by Group 314.

The Group 314 Educational and Support Services Policy (the Policy) details what educational and support services Group 314 provides and how the individual support needs of students are determined.

Group 314 provides all reasonable and feasible educational and support services to students from before enrolment and for the duration of training and assessment.

The Policy covers:

  • Processes in place to assist students enrol in suitable courses including entry requirements, gathering of information during enrolment and pre-course evaluations.
  • What happens if a student enrols in a course but the course is deemed unsuitable.
  • Individual and general support available throughout the training period.

The Group 314 Fee Policy (the Policy) provides students with relevant fee information including fees and payment terms.

The Policy covers course fees and provides information about deposits and payment plans as well as possible discounts and how to request them. It also details other fees that may be applicable in some cases, such as fees for:

  • An extension of time to complete a course.
  • More than two attempts at an assessment.
  • Cancellation of enrolment.
  • Debt collection.

It also details payment terms and how defaults in payment will be handled.

The Group 314 Privacy Policy (the Policy) provides information about the collection, storage, handling, accessing, amendment, management, transfer, use and/or disclosure of personal information held by Group 314.

The purpose of the Policy is to:

  • Clearly communicate Group 314 personal information handling practices.
  • Describe the types of personal information that Group 314 collects.
  • Explain how to access or correct personal information.

Group 314 takes student privacy seriously and handles personal information in accordance with the following Information Privacy Principles.

  1. Collection of personal information (lawful and fair).
  2. Collection of personal information (requested from individual).
  3. Collection of personal information (relevance etc).
  4. Storage and security of personal information.
  5. Providing information about documents containing personal information.
  6. Access to documents containing personal information.
  7. Amendment of documents containing personal information.
  8. Checking of accuracy etc. of personal information before use.
  9. Use of personal information only for relevant purpose.
  10. Limits on use of personal information.
  11. Limits of Disclosure.

Group 314 is required to provide personal information to the Australian Skills Quality Authority, government departments offering subsidised training and issuers of certification documentation for reporting and auditing purposes. Students are required to agree to the release of this information during enrolment.

Group 314 Privacy Policy V3 WS

The Australian Government National VET Data Policy sets out privacy information a student needs to know before they enrol with a Registered Training Organisation. Group 314 is required to provide this notice to students. Please read the National VET Data Privacy Notice prior to enrolment.

The Group 314 Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy (the Policy) provides students with information about how to apply for RPL and how the RPL process works.

RPL is a process by which current skills and knowledge (competencies) that a student may have acquired previously through formal, non-formal or informal learning can be assessed.

Group 314’s training methodology is designed to build on existing competencies to achieve training outcomes rather than starting from the beginning. If existing competencies can be demonstrated, validated and meet the requirements specified for a nationally recognised unit of competency, those competencies do not need to be retaught.

RPL may be claimed for any nationally recognised unit of competency included in a Group 314 course.

The Policy covers:

  • How and when to make a claim for RPL (the Claim).
  • What evidence must be provided to support the Claim.
  • How existing competencies are assessed.
  • How the Claim is assessed by Group 314.
  • How to appeal an unsuccessful Claim.

The Group 314 Refund Policy (the Policy) provides information about when fees paid for training and assessment services may be refunded. Examples of when fees may be refunded include: within cooling off periods; in exceptional circumstances; and when training has been cancelled.

The Policy also explains how students can request a refund, how an approved refund would be paid and how a dispute about a refund application decision will be handled.

The Group 314 Responsibilities Policy (the Policy) details Group 314 and student responsibilities throughout the training and assessment process.

The Group 314 responsibilities are provided so that students know what they can expect from Group 314 when they enrol in a Group 314 course.

Student responsibilities fall into the following categories and are provided in full in the Policy:

  • Confidentiality.
  • Behaviour.
  • Training and assessment.
  • Progression and completion of training.
  • Evaluations.
  • Administration.

Acceptance of student responsibilities is required at enrolment. Students should review the responsibilities in the Policy prior to enrolment so they know what will be expected of them during training with Group 314.

The Policy addresses how breaches of responsibility by either party will be handled.

The Group 314 Transition of Students Between Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) Policy (the Policy) informs students of their rights if Group 314, or a third party delivering training on behalf of Group 314, closes or ceases to deliver any part of the training product that the student is enroled in.

  • The process for informing students that Group 314 or a third party has closed or has ceased to deliver any part of a training product.
  • Options for ongoing training.
  • Assistance with sourcing an alternative training provider.
