Introduction
Group 314 is conducting public Swiftwater Rescue courses on the Nymboida River in February 2025 for outdoor leaders and public safety rescue operators.
Dates
The dates are:
- 4-5 February 2025 (outdoor leadership (SIS) / public safety responder).
- 6-7 February 2025 (public safety technician).
Cost
- $750 ex GST for each two-day block of training.
What to expect
We conduct high quality practical training on natural rivers with maximum participation. Depending on water levels, we ordinarily include trips down the river to maximise learning opportunities from a variety of river features. The Nymboida River has rapids up to Grade 4

Students are required to organise their own camping arrangements and rations.
Swiftwater Rescue – SIS Outdoor Recreation
This course provides the skills and knowledge required to self-rescue and conduct rescues / recoveries on inland white-water rivers with rapids up to Grade 2.
The course is applicable to personnel who are required to operate on, or near, white water rivers.
The course is conducted over the first two days. Anyone wishing to gain further experience and practice technical rescue techniques can also attend the second two days of training.

Swiftwater Rescue – PUA Public Safety
These courses provide the skills and knowledge required to undertake Swiftwater and floodwater rescues and recoveries as a member of a specialist rescue team.
Swiftwater and floodwater recovery involves the rescue of persons from fast moving water in areas such as stormwater drains, canals, rivers and/or creeks. It involves the use of a variety of rescue techniques with suitably equipped rescue operators entering the water.
