Manage Workplace Risk

Developing and implementing Safety Management Systems.

The course applies to workers in management roles who have completed a Certificate IV in Surface Extraction Operations and want to advance with professional development. They will have responsibility for WHS as part of their broader management role. It is relevant for people with obligations under WHS laws, for example persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) or officers, as defined by WHS laws.

This course develops competency to establish, maintain and evaluate organisational work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs in a work area to ensure a safe workplace, according to WHS legislative requirements.

The course will recognise prior learning of experienced supervisors. Group 314 will guide the assessment process to gather as much evidence from the workplace as possible. Gap training will be provided if it is required.

Course Information

This course requires the successful completion of 2 units of competency ( Units ):

RIIRIS501E Implement and maintain management systems to control risk.
BSBWHS521 Ensure a safe workplace for a work area.

The course is predominantly conducted via distance and e-learning where students will complete a variety of activities, questions and assignments.

Where face-to-face training is required, it will be conducted in a style similar to personal coaching.

Qualification

Nationally Recognised Training ( NRT ) under the Australian Quality Training Framework ( AQTF ).

This course requires students to complete a variety of assessment activities.

Third Party Evidence.

This course is conducted primarily through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Group 314 will guide students through the RPL process and will conduct training where gaps in competency are identified.

The course is conducted online or via distance (email and telephone).

If face-to-face training is required, it will be conducted in the workplace.

  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
  • Have an email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.
  • Have access to workplace policies, procedures, and safety systems.
  • Hold AQF IV risk management and WHS units.
  • Have experience in the resources sector as a supervisor.
  • Have, or are likely to have, responsibility for WHS as part of their broader management role.
