RII40120 Certificate IV in Surface Extraction Operations

Course Description
This course is for personnel in supervisor roles of surface extraction operations, such as an open cut mine or quarry.

Quarry Managers of a Tier 2 quarry are required to hold this qualification (including the competency 'RIIERR401E Apply and monitor surface operations emergency preparedness') by 1 October 2024. For more information on the requirements for Quarry Managers see the NSW Resources Regulator Guide.

The course will recognize prior learning of experienced supervisors. Group 314 will guide the assessment process to gather as much evidence from the workplace as possible. Gap training will be provided if it is required.

Course Content
This course requires the successful completion of 13 units of competency ( Units ).

The 13 Units must be made up of 4 Core Units plus 9 Elective Units.

The standard course offered by Group 314 includes the following Units:

Core Units

  • RIICOM301E Communicate information.
  • RIIENV302E Apply environmentally sustainable work practices.
  • RIIGOV401E Apply, monitor and report on compliance systems.
  • RIIRIS401E Apply site risk management system.

Elective Units

  • BSBWHS411 Implement and monitor WHS policies, procedures and programs.
  • RIIERR302E Respond to local emergencies and incidents.
  • RIIERR401E Apply and monitor emergency preparedness and response systems in surface operations.
  • BSBLDR411 Demonstrate leadership in the workplace.
  • BSBOPS402 Coordinate business operational plans.
  • BSBPEF402 Develop personal work priorities.
  • RIIRIS301E Apply risk management processes.
  • HLTAID011 Provide first aid.
  • BSBWHS418 Assist with managing WHS compliance of contractors.

Other elective combinations are possible. Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the integrity of the AQF alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.

Recognition
Nationally Recognised Training ( NRT ) under the Australian Quality Training Framework ( AQTF ).

Qualification.

Course Fee
$3,250 ex GST (per enrolment)

$750 ex GST travel surcharge (per visit)

Course fees will vary depending on the amount of RPL or Credit Transfer available. Please contact Group 314 to discuss your individual circumstances to develop a custom training plan.

No more than $1,500 ex GST will be charged upon enrolment for private (non-corporate) enrolments.

Entry Requirements
Students must:

  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
  • Have an email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.
  • Have very good language, literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Have Microsoft Office (or equivalent).
  • Complete a Pre-course Evaluation to determine suitability for the course.
  • Evidence of being in (or recently in) a supervisory role for surface extraction operations.
  • Have access to an operational work environment for the completion of assessment tasks.
  • Have access to workplace policies and procedures.


Duration
10 days over a period of up to 12 months.

Some students may be able to complete the course in less time through demonstrated prior learning.

Training Strategy
The course is predominantly conducted via distance and e-learning where students will complete a variety of activities, questions and assignments.

Where face-to-face training is required, it will be conducted in a style similar to personal coaching.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Available.

This course is conducted primarily through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Group 314 will guide students through the RPL process and will conduct training where gaps in competency are identified.

Credit Transfer
Available.

Credit Transfer is required for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid.

Successful Credit Transfer applications may result in variations to the duration and cost of the course.

Assessment Strategy
The assessment tasks that may be completed for this course are:

  • Knowledge Assessments (written).
  • Competency Observations.
  • Assignments (written).
  • Third Party Evidence.
  • Portfolio.

Students will participate in a range of realistic scenarios.

Location
The course is conducted online or via distance (email and telephone).

If face-to-face training is required, it will be conducted in the workplace.
