UATL Conversion – Roping and Caving

Course Description
Group 314 has developed a suite of conversion courses to enable Army Unit Adventurous Training Leaders (UATL's) to gain civilian accreditation for their UATL qualification.

The UATL qualification is closely aligned to the Certificate IV in Outdoor Leadership. Each UATL discipline has been mapped to the qualification to maximise the amount of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

This course is for Roping and Caving UATL's. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) will be used to issue SIS40619 Certificate IV in Outdoor Leadership.

  • SISOFLD002 Minimise environmental impact
  • SISOPLN001 Finalise operation of outdoor recreation activities
  • SISOPLN002 Plan outdoor recreation activities
  • SISOPLN004 Identify hazards, assess and control risks for outdoor recreation activities
  • SISOPLN005 Interpret weather and environmental conditions for outdoor recreation activities
  • SISORSC001 Conduct search and rescue
  • SISXCAI006 Facilitate groups
  • SISXCCS003 Address client needs
  • SISXEMR002 Coordinate emergency responses
  • SISXFAC001 Maintain equipment for activities

Group A Abseiling, Natural Surfaces, Single Pitch

  • SISOABS003 Abseil single pitches, natural surfaces
  • SISOABS006 Establish ropes for single pitch abseiling on natural surfaces
  • SISOABS009 Lead single pitch abseiling activities on natural surfaces
  • SISOFLD006 Navigate in tracked environments
  • SISORSC002 Perform vertical rescues

Group B Abseiling, Natural Surfaces, Multi Pitch

  • SISOABS004 Abseil multi pitches, natural surfaces
  • SISOABS007 Establish ropes for multi pitch abseiling on natural surfaces
  • SISOABS010 Lead multi pitch abseiling activities on natural surfaces
  • SISORSC003 Perform complex vertical rescues

Group N Caving

  • SISOCVE001 Traverse caves
  • SISOCVE002 Descend and ascend ladders in caves.
  • SISOCVE003 Abseil single pitches in caves
  • SISOCVE004 Descend and ascend single ropes in caves
  • SISOCVE005 Establish ropes, ladders and belays for caving
  • SISOCVE006 Lead caving activities

Imported / Elective Units

  • SISOABL002 Facilitate adventure-based learning activities
  • SISOABS001 Abseil single pitches using fundamental skills
  • SISOABS002 Abseil single pitches, artificial surfaces
  • SISOABS005 Establish ropes for single pitch abseiling on artificial surfaces
  • SISOABS008 Lead single pitch abseiling activities on artificial surfaces


Recognition
Nationally Recognised Training ( NRT ) under the Australian Quality Training Framework ( AQTF ).

Qualification.

Course Fee
$1,500 ex GST (per enrolment)

Entry Requirements
Students must:

  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
  • Have an email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.
  • Complete a Pre-course Evaluation conducted by Group 314 to determine suitability for the course.
  • Be a qualified and current UATL.
  • Have conducted at least two Adventurous Training (AT) activities.


Duration
40 hours.

Training Strategy
No training is conducted for this course. All required skills and knowledge are to be obtained by prior learning.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
This course is only available through RPL.

Assessment Strategy
This course requires students to complete some assessment activities to verify competency:

  • Knowledge assessments (online).
  • Third party evidence reports.
  • Portfolio (document uploads).

There are three steps in the process:

  • Step 1 - Upload qualification, provide proof of currency, complete knowledge assessments.
  • Step 2 - Provide evidence of conducting AT, provide Third Party Evidence, complete knowledge assessments.
  • Step 3 - Complete additional tasks to meet the packaging requirements of the qualification (this will vary).
